Hi guys! That’s right, I have more skincare content coming at you. I hope you’re enjoying it so far ( leave a comment if you are).

Today I’m diving into the world of cystic acne. I’ll explain how I got rid of my cystic acne fast and the steps you can take to prevent it from reoccurring.

What Is Cystic Acne?

According to WebMD, Cystic acne is when you have large, red, painful breakouts deep in your skin. Pimples start when a pore in your skin gets clogged, usually with dead skin cells. Bacteria can also get trapped, causing the area to become red and swollen.

Cystic acne started appearing for me about 3 months ago. While introducing my skin to new skincare products my skin would form these large, painful bumps in different areas of my face. At first, I thought it was a purge but I noticed these particular pimples took longer than normal to subside. It seemed like forever. As soon as one went away I’d get another and there were a few on my cheeks that just never went away, until now.

How I Got Rid Of My Cystic Acne

The key to any skincare routine is consistency. Most products won’t have immediate results and that’s ok. For me, the best place to start was to retrace my steps. My face had never been like this before and I have always had a solid skincare routine that worked. So I assessed all that had changed in my life and tried to bring them back.

The products I reintroduced to my skincare routine were the Mint Julep masque and the hair, skin & nails vitamins.

On top of that, I did a great amount of research to find products that were good at combatting the issues I faced. I came across The Ordinary and decided to give the products a try and they were very helpful in curing the cystic acne.

After gathering all the products I thought I’d need I dedicated myself to trying them for 3 months and that how I got rid of my cystic acne.

Products I Used

For my morning routine I used the following products in the order they appear:

  1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash
  2. Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque (1-2 times weekly)
  3. Witch Hazel Toner
  4. The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin + HA
  5. Aloe Vera Gel (as a moisturizer)
  6. Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen

At night I’d then use:

  1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash
  2. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution (every day except when I use the peeling solution)
  3. The Ordinary Peeling Solution (once weekly)

I reintroduced hair, skin and nails supplements back into my diet. Before I started the Acne Wash from Neutrogena I was using PanOxyl, a benzoyl peroxide face wash targeting acne-causing bacteria. I’d actually recommend this wash to anyone who thinks their acne is bacteria related or has body acne.

How To Prevent Cystic Acne From Returning

Stay consistent with the skincare routine. Prioritize self care. When your skin stabilizes as it will, don’t lapse on the care. Keep the loving going and continue your routine. You may modify as you see necessary but always remember to be consistent.

With this easy skincare routine, I was able to clear my forehead and chin of all active acne. Unfortunately, I still get a few pimples on my cheeks whenever mother nature visits but that’s to be expected.

Skincare Routine Benefits

Despite the pesky occasional pimple, I was able to improve the overall texture and tone of my skin using this easy skincare routine.

As I continue this journey back to clear skin I’m happy to say I’m well on my way. I’ll continue to document the journey here for you guys to see. Since initiating this post I’ve started some dermatologist recommended medication. I’ll update you on my progress with those on a monthly basis.

As always I hope this skincare routine helps you and you’ve found it useful. let me know in the comments if you use any of these products or tell me the products you use to keep your skin in tip-top shape.
